At first, he used a camera mounted on a drone that automatically took photos every half a second. Each change of camera angle required landing and manual adjustment. Today, the equipment is much more advanced. The drones that the photographer uses allow for precise camera settings during flight and the ability to work in changing weather conditions.

– Fog, wind, frost or rain can make it difficult or impossible to take a photos with a drone – says Maciej Zych. – Despite this, there are exceptional moments that make all the effort worthwhile, like capturing a herd of deer in the middle of winter.

Behind the scenes of taking photos

The photos that made it into the calendar are mostly landscapes and scenes captured from a perspective that is inaccessible to traditional photography. One intriguing photo shows a herd of deer that froze at the sound of a drone’s propellers, trying to identify the source of the sound.

– Today, thanks to quieter and smaller drones with so-called electronic zoom, you can take photos from a greater distance, without attracting the attention of the animals. But in this case, without arousing the interest of the deer, there would be no shot of the curious deer – adds the author.

Drone expands possibilities

The photographer treats the drone as a photographic tool that expands the possibilities of creation.

– It is a camera, but with the ability to move in space.
