The participants of the Otyliada in Nysa swam over 370 km

Participants in the Nysa edition of Otylidad swam a total of over 370 km in a night marathon, which took place at the city’s indoor swimming pool over the weekend. The event was traditionally supported by Bioagra, and the competitors were cheered on by Mr. Corn.

Significant results in Nysa

One of the 61 facilities where this year’s Otyliada was organised was the Indoor Swimming Pool in Nysa, where 24 participants fought against fatigue and distance.

The daredevils swam a total of over 370 km. The greatest endurance was demonstrated by Justyna Tkaczyk, who covered a distance of 31.5 km and took 81st place in Poland. The second at the finish line, Łukasz Drożdż, came 91st in the country. The third in Nysa, Szymon Barzij, opens the third hundred participants at the national level. These are significant results when we realize that a total of over 2.5k people started in the marathon.

Serious swimming starts after 10 kilometers

As one of the participants of the Nysa marathon says, the real challenge begins after the first ten kilometers. Swimming, as he put it, becomes serious then, with increasing fatigue.

– Such distances test the body and mind – says the swimmer – Monotony, night time, physical fatigue entail the need to overcome one’s own limitations. While swimming, I thought that if I can face this challenge, I will also cope with others in life. Everyone looks for their own motivation and this was mine – sums up the marathon runner who swam over 20 km in the Nysa pool.

The event was organized by ARN with the assist of Bioagra

It is worth noting that as many as twenty Nysa participants of the Otyliada swam over 10 km. Eight crossed the 20 km barrier, and two people swam a distance of over thirty kilometers.

The competition was organized by the Nysa Development Agency (ARN), and Bioagra once again provided a variety of regenerative snacks and drinks. There was also motivational cheering from Mr. Corn.

The largest mass swimming event in Poland

The jubilee edition of Otyliada attracted a record number of over 2.5k participants, who swam a total of almost 26.6k km during the twelve hours of the event. This is over half the circumference of the globe.

The previous record of Otylida is held by Sebastian Karaś, who swam 54.2 km almost a decade ago. He is a professional who has set five Polish records, swam across the English Channel and attempted to swim across the Baltic Sea.

The name of the event refers to Otylia Jędrzejczak, a Polish swimmer, multiple Olympic champion and world record holder, who has supported it from the very beginning.
