Once again, Bioagra supports the Nysa ice rink
The Nysa Development Agency is ready to open the city’s ice rink, which is one of the city’s most frequently visited recreational attractions in winter. For the second year in a row, the ice rink is supported by Bioagra as the official sponsor of the facility. In addition to financial assistance, this year the company helped develop a concept for reducing the energy consumption needed to cool the ice sheet.
This year, when preparing the opening of the Nysa ice rink, the Nysa Development Agency – in cooperation with Bioagra – set itself the goal of reducing energy consumption and ensuring the best possible conditions for skating. Due to climate change and increasing energy prices, running open ice rinks has become a real challenge for local governments in Poland. It is worth noting that last month was the hottest October in the history of measurements around the world, according to “Copernicus”, the European climate monitoring center.
Thanks to the financial and material support of Bioagra, a barrier was placed under the ice rink to prevent the ground under the tennis court – where the ice rink is located – from freezing. Additional layers of insulation were placed on the mineral layer of the court, which is a natural insulator. The main role in this case is played by styrofoam with high insulating properties and the industrial foil with very high mechanical resistance, provided by Bioagra – says Bogdan Wypałkowski, President of the Nysa Development Agency.
In the case of the ice rink in Nysa, additional insulation will allow the power of the so-called chillers to be directed to keep the ice layer in the best possible condition with the minimum possible energy consumption. Additionally, insulation under the ice rink surface will reduce the facility’s operating costs.
– Reducing energy consumption is a global and local priority – says Mirosław Obarski from Bioagra. – The approach implemented by ARN at the Nysa ice rink has been already close to our company for a long time. This year, at the Goświnowice Ethanol Production Plant, we implemented the so-called low temperature cooking. This is an improved production process that saves energy and significantly reduces the amount of water vapor that carries the odor from the ethanol production process.

Several thousand trees and bushes
Over the course of five years, Bioagra has planted several thousand trees and bushes around the Goświnowice Ethanol Production Plant (ZPE). The scale of plantings is comparable to those carried out in Wrocław and Poznań – the cities that plant the most large trees in Poland. The plantings that the company has been carrying out since 2018 have so far cost several hundred thousand PLN.
The scale of plantings is the same as in Wrocław or Poznań
The first plantings of several thousand plants were carried out around ZPE in April 2018. Within a year, Bioagra can plant as many trees in its area as Wrocław or Poznań. It should be noted that these are plantings of well-grown trees – plants that are at least 6-8 years old and specimens that are over a dozen years old – such as those planted by Bioagra at the beginning of November this year. Trees that have been growing around ZPE for several years improve the aesthetics of the area and contribute to reducing the sound and odor intensity from the production installation.
Biodiversity and food for bees
– New trees are another element of the process of building biodiversity and adding color to the area – says Mirosław Obarski from Bioagra. – The newest species planted are melliferous, which is of great importance for the ongoing queen bee breeding project at ZPE. Bioagra has been planting bee-friendly bushes and trees for several years now. They allow insects to collect pollen and honeydew, which is occurring in the form of drops, e.g. on the leaves of some deciduous trees.
Several types of trees and bushes
Many species of trees and bushes already grow around ZPE. At the beginning of the planting, closest to the ring road, evergreen conifers, thujas and cypresses were planted, which retain a uniform green and silver color in winter and summer. In the second line of trees, avenue plants appeared, which shed their leaves in winter. Native trees were selected, including maple, sycamore, hornbeam and common beech, cherry plum, silver birch and mountain ash. Black pines, Serbian spruces and small-leaved lindens were also planted on the company’s premises, as well as shrubs such as palm maples, bouquet hydrangeas, magnolias, rhododendrons, Japanese azaleas, cinquefoils and viburnums.

Beautiful trees at Bioagra
New tree plantings around the Ethanol Production Plant include only very large specimens. Over the last few years, Bioagra has planted several thousand trees around the Goświnowice Ethanol Production Plant (ZPE).
Drought according to trees
Planting mature trees is a response to the current climate situation. Experts say that in Poland we are basically dealing with a constant drought – certainly from the perspective of the trees. Planting large, older specimens increases the likelihood that the tree will take root in such difficult conditions.
The key to planting
When planting around the ZPE, summer and winter colors, the shape of the tree crown, growth rate, resistance to weather conditions and pests, and the role in the ecosystem are all also taken into account. The trees belong to abundantly flowering and melliferous species, which is important for the ongoing queen bee breeding project at ZPE.
All trees currently planted in the ZPE area are nursed, i.e. tree seedlings are replanted every 2-3 years to strengthen their root system in this long-term process.
What new trees appeared on the company’s premises?
Red chestnut (simply called chestnut) with trunks 14-16 cm thick, approximately 12 years old – a tree with red flowers, slightly smaller than the common chestnut, but can grow to a height of about 15-20 meters. Quite abundantly branched crown, straight trunk, brown and green colored bark. The characteristic “five-fingered” leaves resembling a hand do not discolor in autumn, but fall down when still green. The hallmark of this tree are its flowers, which are pink and red. The tree blooms profusely and is much more resistant to pests that destroy chestnut trees in Poland than the common variety.
Silver linden (Crimean) with 18-20 cm thick trunks, about 14 years old, resistant to the harmful effects of aphids, resistant to heat and drought and resistant to frost, although thermophilic. Linden is a tree common in Poland and well known. It is most associated with the fact that its abundant inflorescences can be used to prepare valuable tea.

Bioagra at “September with Country”
Once again Bioagra supported the “September with Country” outdoor event. The aim of the event, which was organized for the eleventh time, was to integrate the community of people with disabilities.
A total of approximately 1 000 people took part in this year’s edition of the outdoor event, which was organized by the Community Self-Help Center of the Caritas of the Opole Diocese in Nysa.
The event was attended by residents of twenty-two centers caring for people with disabilities, pupils from seven kindergartens in Nysa and volunteers from three local educational institutions (Economic School Complex, Technical School Complex and Primary School No. 3) who helped in carrying out the event.
Bioagra was involved in the organization of the “September with Country” event for the second time in a row. The company helped prepare a unique dish in the form of 4 500 dumplings to enhance the event. Mr. Corn also appeared at the event where he took part in numerous games and activities, posed for group photos and entertained the attendees. As usual, participants could enjoy a wide range of attractions, including singing and dancing together, competitions with prizes, playing with holi powders and gold panning.
The annual event integrates the community and builds awareness of the scale and scope of assistance available to disabled people in Nysa.

The final of the Nysa Championships in men’s and women’s beach volleyball
The final duels for the Nysa 2023 Beach Volleyball Championship took place over the weekend. The event, which was supported by Bioagra, was attended by over 160 players from all over Poland.
As before, the Nysa Championships were played on the pitches on a unique beach on Lake Nyskie. The fans could enjoy the matches and the wonderful view of the wide body of water with mountain peaks in the background.
For the first time the competition, lasting a total of 10 days, was held in the women’s and men’s categories. Over 100 male and 60 female players took part in the championships. An impressive number of 320 matches were played throughout this year’s series of qualifying tournaments and finals.

Players playing in indoor games of Plus Liga (men) and Tauron Liga (women) were among the starters. Interestingly, this type of volleyball is as effective and fast as indoor volleyball, but it can be much more exciting. In this discipline, players representing lower leagues or even playing only to maintain physical condition have a chance to win duels with professionals.
– Beach volleyball is extremely exciting because every match is a great unknown – says Wojtek Kondracki, organizer of the Nysa Championships on behalf of the Volley Beach Nysa Volleyball Club. – The matches are full of unique drama and unusual twists and spectacular, physics-defying actions. In this discipline, even very reputable players can be defeated by lower ranked players.
Wojtek Kondracki explains this phenomenon by saying that although technical skills and experience in the game are the basis for success, the conditions on the beach even out or sometimes even reverse the odds. Rebounding into a block or impact is hampered by sand, which can be hot and dry like dust or wet and muddy. Matches are played in the open air, regardless of the weather. For example: in last year’s games, at times, the sand on the beach in Nysa reached a temperature of over 70 Celsius degrees.

The organizer of the tournament is the Beach Volley Nysa Volleyball Club. This year’s event was combined with the Grand Prix of the Opole region organized by the Opole Volleyball Association. The Nysa Championships are listed in the central system of the Polish Volleyball Association. This means that the players who took the first 4 places received points in the national ranking of beach volleyball players.

Bioagra has launched an improved technological process
“Goświnowice” Ethanol Production Plant has launched a new investment, which results in a 50% reduction in water vapor emissions from the feed material drying installation. This will reduce the intensity of the smell, as well as the consumption of water and energy needed for production.
Bioagra points out that the investment will help the company keep up with the competition from foreign concerns and remain a leader in the region in the implementation of the postulates of a zero-emission economy. Thanks to the energy recovered from steam, the plant will reduce the consumption of natural gas by 10 percent. Reducing the use of this fossil fuel is a step towards making industrial activities independent of gas as an energy source, as well as reducing CO2 emissions.
– From now on, the plant uses a large part of the energy in the production process, which previously escaped into the atmosphere with steam – Mirosław Obarski explained.
The implementation depends, among others, on the “return” of energy from the end of the technological process to one of the initial stages of production. The energy taken away from hot water vapor – which is formed during the drying of the so-called feed material – will be used, among others, for heating the mash. At the same time, the company’s engineers will reduce the temperature of this process using the so-called low temperature cooking technology.
The development of the solution and preparation for implementation took over two years, and its implementation will take almost half a year in total. For it to work, distant production stages must be connected with a network of technological pipelines. This requires numerous pumps, heat exchangers, expansion tanks and heaters.
Bioagra constantly invests in solutions that reduce its impact on the natural environment and the surrounding area. The company has so far spent tens of millions of zlotys to reduce the smell and sound intensity. A number of improvements and modifications contributed to the reduction of the sound intensity generated by the production installation. The company has also launched a system for reducing the odor generated in the fermentation process, which has been in operation for several years.
